Rome is an amazing city with a lot to offer
If Rome wasn’t already on your travel bucket list, I’m telling you that it deserves a spot. I only spent a few short days here, and I already can’t wait to go back and explore more. There are so many reasons why you should visit Rome.
It is a city ripe with history and stunning architecture. There is so much to explore and take in. I have included The Vatican City as well since they are closely intertwined. There are so many reasons to visit Rome and The Vatican City.
This next installment in my ‘why you should visit’ wanderlust series takes us back to Europe, specifically Italy. If you’re new here, we previously virtually visited Panama. Santorini, and Cartagena. We have also explored street art in Spain. Just because we can currently travel abroad, doesn’t mean we can’t dream a little, and start planning our next dream vacation.
While everybody knows to visit the Roman Colosseum and The Vatican City, what most people don’t talk about is St. Peter’s Basilica. Also located in Vatican City, it is stunning both inside and out.
Plan to spend an entire day at the Vatican City so you have enough time to explore it thoroughly. It may be the world’s smallest city, but it packs a lot into a small space. Without further ado, below is my photo gallery of reasons why you should put Rome on your travel bucket list.

The iconic Trevi fountain can’t be missed on any trip to Rome. It was gorgeous at night, but I wish I had the time to go back and see it during the daytime.Stunning architecture along every street. No walk around the city of Rome is dull.Iconic shot out front of the Roman Colosseum. We did a tour and it was well worth it to not only bypass the line, but also learn about the history of the most popular building in Rome.Exploring inside the Roman Colosseum on our tour.There’s so much to see around the Colosseum, like this building Altare Della Patria, also called the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument. I was constantly in awe of the architecture everywhere I went.Rome isn’t just about the buildings, it’s also got some delicious food! This picture was taken at Magnolia, a Michelin Star restaurant. This was most definitely a bucketlist worthy dining experience.The top of The Vatican peeking through the trees. We also did a paid tour here, and I would highly recommend that as well. You get to bypass the lines as well as learn about the Vatican City from a guide.The ceilings inside the Vatican buildings were incredible! Such amazing artwork everywhere.The incredibly narrow staircase inside St. Peter’s Basilica. If you can make it, I recommend the trek up to the top for the stunning views of the city.The views you are rewarded with once you climb to the top of St Peter’s BasilicaMore views of the city of Rome from the top of St Peter’s Basilica.And finally, we timed it right for these incredible sunset views!I was blown away by the inside of St. Peter’s Basilica. This is a must-see when visiting the Vatican CityNo trip to Rome, or Italy in general, would be complete without gelato! This was honey flavoured, and it was delicious.
