Quote of the month – August
Do not compare yourself to others. Only compare yourself to the ‘you’ of yesterday.
Read this quote, then read it again. In today’s overly social society it is all too easy to scroll through someone’s Instagram feed or Facebook timeline and think to yourself that you wish you were that fit, that good-looking, or that rich.
You are, in fact, your only competition. It’s your life and nobody else’s.
Before you waste time wishing you had someone else’s life, stop and remember that people only let others see what they want them to see.
The grass is not greener on the other side. It is green where you water it. Place your focus accordingly, on yourself.
Even before filters were applied, that photo you see on social media was filtered from the hundreds that were taken before it. Social Media gives us a glimpse into the lives of others, but it is not an accurate representation of their life.
When someone posts a photo, especially an Influencer or celebrity, they have carefully selected that image, crafted the image and posed it how they want the world to view them. It’s the version of themselves that they wish they were.
Nobody posts the early morning picture before they’ve done their hair and make-up, and have just spilled coffee all over their shirt and the kitchen floor 😉 But you best believe they’ll post the picture of them sipping a perfectly foamy latté with friends at that new coffee shop.
My before and after coffee comparison
The only person you should ever compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday. Decide who you want that person to be today, tomorrow, and the day after that. Then compare yourself to that ideal version of yourself.
If you want to be more fill-in-the-blank (adventurous/fit/healthy/social / whatever it is you want) – then get out there and do it. Remember, you are only ever one decision away from an entirely different life.
