Unwind amidst breathtaking landscapes, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and let your worries melt away as you embark on a journey of self-care and pampering at Flow Motion Spa.

My Review of Flow Motion Spa in Bellingham

When selecting a spa in Bellingham, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The city is home to several top-rated spas that consistently deliver exceptional service and unforgettable experiences. Today, I’m giving you my first-hand experience at the newest spa in town, Flow Motion.

When you think of a spa, you likely picture a lovely waiting area with lounge chairs and separate rooms for massages, facials, and the like. This is only a small part of what Flow Motion has to offer.

The Parlor

Flow Motion is an incredible space with unique and luxurious experiences waiting for you. Pictured below is the Parlor where spa guests can sip, snack, and socialize. This is where guests can talk amongst themselves without worrying about disturbing other guests.

This space is also open 30 minutes before yoga classes as a space for guests to come and relax, drink tea, and prepare for their yoga class. But more about this area later. Let’s get to the good stuff you came here to learn about first.

Himalayan Salt Cave

While I have spent time in other salt caves, I have never been in one quite like this. I got to experience a Halotherapy session inside the salt cave.

During a Halotherapy session, super-fine particulates of pharmaceutical-grade salt fill the air flowing from a HaloGenerator machine. You can either sit in the salt or lie in one of their zero-gravity chairs.

I chose to lie in a chair but I went back into the room later on and did salt angels. Salt angels are exactly like snow angels but in salt instead of snow. And they are very fun to do and I recommend trying them.

Halotherapy is therapeutic for respiratory, skin, and immune system support. While halotherapy does not cure conditions, it can provide relief from asthma, allergies, sinusitis, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, psoriasis, eczema, and colds.

The ambient lighting creates a soft glow in the room and the entire experience provides the ultimate in relaxation. During our session, one lady fell asleep and I think if the session had been any longer, I would also have drifted off.

Himalayan Salt Sauna

After my Halotherapy session, I went into the Himalayan Salt Sauna to warm up. The sauna at Flow Motion is unlike any other sauna I’ve ever used. After all, we are discussing the best spa in Bellingham so it has to be incredible.

The sauna is a dry-heat sauna with infrared light and Himalayan salt walls. The pink Himalayan salt bricks surround you with naturally occurring negative ions that provide relaxation during a deeply therapeutic experience.

Salt Sauna at Flow Motion Spa

Normally, I am not a big fan of saunas because I get too hot very quickly and usually have to leave after 5 minutes. However, because this one is an infrared sauna, it stays at a comfortable temperature and never gets overly hot so I was able to enjoy it for much longer than usual.

Amethyst Crystal Cave

Arguably the most stunning room in the entire spa is the Amethyst Crystal Cave. The picture below doesn’t do it justice so you’ll have to take my word for it. That is, until you visit the best spa in Bellingham to see for yourself. The walls are covered in sparkling purple amethyst crystals. It’s truly a sight to behold.

In the centre of the room is a salt waterfall, known as a graduation tower. It gently trickles water, bringing nature indoors. The soothing sounds make it the ideal space for meditating, or simply relaxing.

The strange squiggles you see below are branches and twigs that break up the salt waterfall flowing over them. This pushes more salt water into the air so it’s like you’re breathing in the salty ocean air like you would during a day at the beach.

To create a cave-like environment, they have artfully created stalactites and the softly illuminated rare white Himalayan salt walls showcase the brilliant sparkle of the amethyst walls.

One service I didn’t indulge in, but think makes this the best spa in Bellingham, is a private massage in the Amethyst Crystal Cave.

They will close down the room for you to enjoy a private massage surrounded by glistening amethyst and the soothing sound of the waterfall. If that isn’t the ultimate indulgence, I don’t know what is.

Zero-Gravity Massage Chairs

I have always wanted a massage chair at home and now I want one of these ones! Most of them don’t recline and some of them can be a tad aggressive. If you’ve ever sat in one of these chairs then you’ll know what I mean. But the massage chairs at Flow Motion are heavenly.

Airbags gently squeeze and massage your entire body from your feet to your shoulders with massage rollers for your back and feet. The zero gravity feature gently reclines and cradles your body, taking pressure and compression off your spine. It’s complete and utter bliss.

Additional services offered by Flow Motion Spa in Bellingham

In addition to their spa treatments, Flow Motion Spa in Bellingham offers a range of wellness services that complement your spa experience. These services focus on enhancing your overall well-being and promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Additional services include massage therapy, energy healing, yoga, sound baths, and halotherapy. Visit the Flow Motion website for a complete list of services.

The two additional services I enjoyed were the Halotherapy and a Vibrational Sound Therapy session. This was my first time doing one and I was so relaxed at the end that I could easily have drifted off to sleep immediately after she was done.

Available lunch and snacks

If you are going to be at the spa all day like I was, then you’re likely going to get hungry. Not to worry, Flow Motion Spa has you covered.

They have partnered with a local company to offer charcuterie boards and salads. There is no on-site restaurant so food orders must be placed in advance. Same-day orders cannot be accommodated so be sure to place your order the day before you arrive.

Pictured below are my delicious charcuterie board and salad that I enjoyed for lunch in the Parlor. They also have a selection of herbal teas for you to enjoy with your lunch.

Flow Motion Spa Day Pass

Now that you know what it is at Flow Motion, you may be wondering how it all works. To take advantage of all of these incredible rooms, you simply purchase a spa pass.

With each spa pass you have three hours of unlimited use of the spa areas. The cost of a spa pass is currently $69, which I think is an incredible deal.

The following are included in your day pass: The Himalayan Salt Sauna, Amethyst Crystal Cave, Himalayan Salt Cave, an infrared experience, the relaxation lounge, and the zero-gravity massage lounge. You are free to come and go from all of these rooms during your three hours.

The Halotherapy session I mentioned earlier is an add-on to the spa day pass. Any massage services would also be an additional cost. Add-ons range from $49 – $109.

Flow Motion only accepts 8 guests at a time to enjoy a more exclusive visit and ensure everyone’s privacy. Be sure to book well in advance of your preferred visit day to avoid disappointment.

Benefits of spa treatments

Spa treatments offer benefits for both your physical and mental well-being. And you know how important I think self-care is! Whether you’re seeking relaxation, pain relief, or rejuvenation, there’s a treatment tailored to your specific needs. If you’re not sure which one to select, listen to your body. It always knows best.

One of the primary benefits of spa treatments is stress reduction. And we can all use some of that, am I right?! The soothing environment and relaxing music, coupled with skilled therapists, help to alleviate stress and promote a deep sense of relaxation.

In addition to stress reduction, spa treatments can also improve blood circulation, detoxify the body, and enhance the immune system. Massages, in particular, help to relieve muscle tension, reduce pain, and improve flexibility. Massages are one of my favourite ways to indulge in self-care when I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

Facials, on the other hand, nourish the skin, remove impurities, and leave you with a healthy, radiant complexion. These treatments not only enhance your physical appearance but also boost your self-confidence and overall well-being. They aren’t as relaxing as a massage, but you will look and feel rejuvenated afterwards.

Moreover, spa treatments provide a much-needed break from the demands of daily life. They allow you to disconnect from technology, quiet your mind, and focus on self-care.

By taking the time to prioritize your well-being, you’ll experience increased energy levels, improved sleep, and a greater sense of inner peace. Treat yourself to a spa day, and you’ll reap the countless benefits that come with it.

Preparing for your spa visit

Preparing for your spa visit ensures you make the most of your experience and fully enjoy the benefits of the treatments. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your spa visit:

Whether you’re visiting this spa in Bellingham, or any other spa, here are some tips to help you have the best possible experience.

  1. Book in Advance: To secure your preferred date and time, book your spa appointments in advance. Like most spas, Flow Motion Spa requires that you book in advance. This ensures that you don’t miss out on the treatments you desire.
  2. Arrive Early: There is nothing worse than rushing to a spa appointment. Arriving early gives you time to relax, unwind, and take full advantage of the spa facilities.
  3. Hydrate: It’s essential to stay hydrated before and after your treatments. Drink plenty of water to hydrate your body and maximize the benefits of the spa treatments. Bring a water bottle with you so you can stay hydrated as you enjoy the various saunas and steam rooms during your visit.
  4. Communicate Your Preferences: Communicate your preferences and concerns to the spa staff. Whether it’s the pressure of a massage, the products used during a facial, or any allergies you may have, providing this information ensures that the treatments are tailored to your needs.
  5. Disconnect: Spas are a no-phone zone. Take this opportunity to disconnect from technology and embrace the tranquillity of the spa. Leave your phone and other electronic devices in your locker or bag to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

By following these simple tips, you’ll be well-prepared for your spa visit and ready to embrace the ultimate indulgence in relaxation and self-care.

Editor’s note: Flow Motion Spa is a phone-free zone. I received special permission during my visit to take photographs so I could write about it. When I visit a spa for my own personal self-care, I never take my phone with me. It remains locked in the locker so I can relax.

What to expect during a spa treatment

During your spa treatment, you can expect a personalized and attentive experience that caters to your every need. The skilled therapists and estheticians will ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process.

Here’s what you can typically expect during a spa treatment at Flow Motion Spa, or most other spas in Bellingham:

  1. Consultation: The therapist will conduct a consultation to understand your needs, preferences, and any specific concerns. This allows them to customize the treatment to address your individual requirements. Be honest with them so you can receive the best experience possible. And don’t be afraid to speak up mid-treatment if you are uncomfortable.
  2. Preparation: At Flow Motion Spa, and most other spas, you’ll be provided with a robe, slippers, and a locker to store your belongings. Once you’re changed, you’ll be guided to the treatment room, where you can prepare for your spa experience. If you are visiting a spa for the first time, I suggest double-checking which amenities they provide.
  3. Relaxation: The therapist or esthetician will create a serene and peaceful ambiance in the treatment room. Soft music, dim lighting, and aromatherapy scents will help you relax and unwind. If you dislike certain scents, be sure to notify them so they don’t use them.
  4. Treatment: The treatment will begin according to the specific services you’ve chosen. Whether it’s a massage, facial, or body treatment, the therapist or esthetician will utilize their expertise to deliver a tailored and exceptional experience.
  5. Aftercare: After the treatment, you’ll be given time to relax and savour the post-treatment effects. The therapist or esthetician may offer recommendations for at-home care or additional services that complement your treatment.

Throughout the entire process, your comfort and well-being are the top priority. If you encounter any issues at all during your spa visit, never hesitate to let the staff know. The staff is there to ensure that you have an unforgettable spa experience that leaves you feeling revitalized and rejuvenated.

Spa etiquette and tips for a relaxing experience

To ensure a harmonious and relaxing atmosphere for not only yourself but for all guests, it’s important to observe proper spa etiquette. Here are some etiquette guidelines to follow during your spa visit:

  1. Arrive on Time: Arrive on time for your appointment to avoid delaying other guests’ treatments. If you’re running late, please notify the spa in advance.
  2. Respect Quiet Zones: Spas often have designated quiet zones, such as relaxation lounges or meditation areas. Respect these areas by keeping your voice low and refraining from using electronic devices. Your phone should remain locked in your locker during your entire spa visit.
  3. Communicate Your Preferences: Communicate your preferences and concerns to the therapist or esthetician. Whether it’s the room temperature, the pressure of the massage, or any discomfort during the treatment, providing feedback ensures that your experience is tailored to your needs. It’s important to remember that some people love a massage with hard pressure, while others prefer a softer touch. Always speak up about your preferences and never feel bad about letting them know if it’s not to your liking. Just please do so kindly and politely.
  4. Mind Personal Hygiene: Practice good personal hygiene by showering before your treatment. This ensures a pleasant experience for both you and the therapist or esthetician.
  5. Tipping: Tipping is customary in spas in the United States and Canada, as well as in many other parts of the world. If you’re satisfied with the service, it’s customary to tip the therapist or esthetician. The standard tip is usually 15-20% of the treatment cost.

By adhering to these etiquette guidelines, you contribute to a serene and relaxing environment for all guests and ensure a pleasant experience for yourself.
